Introducing Perpetual Giving – Our new Philanthropic Initiative

We are excited to announce our new philanthropic initiative – Perpetual Giving.

Perpetual Giving was formed in 2013 and is working with New Zealand’s favourite charities to encourage more people to consider leaving a charitable gift in their Will, once they've looked after their family and friends. Together, we aim to do what no single charity can do alone, making legacy giving a social norm.
Many charities depend on legacies and without them they would not exist. Bequests and legacies for philanthropic purposes amounted to an estimated $122.0 million*. If, together, we can grow this by just 5%, we could raise an extra $ 6.1 million for New Zealand charities. Therefore as a business specialising in estate planning we estimate that we can make a huge difference to charitable gifting in NZ.
Perpetual Giving is founded on the basis that no one charity can achieve market growth alone. It is only by pooling resources and working together that we can grow the market and ultimately change the course of legacy giving nationwide.

How it Works

We will provide a platform to enable our clients to find out more about NZ charities in order to help them decide which charity/ charities they wish to leave a gift to in their wills. In conjunction with our new Online Wills service and with support from our advisory services; this will make leaving a legacy to charity an informed, yet simple, process.

Our charitable partners will be able to first submit an expression of interest to be included on the site. Once accepted, they will appear on our charities page to make charity selection for legacy giving straightforward for our clients.

By bringing our clients and NZs most treasured charities together, we hope to make legacy giving a social norm.

The importance of Charitable Gifts

Charitable gifts left in Wills are the foundation for many good causes in New Zealand, and without them many charities would struggle to survive. The problem is that whilst many New Zealanders support charities, very few currently leave a legacy to them.

We know that there is real potential for growing the legacy market. Research in the UK indicated that 35%* of the UK population were ‘happy to give a small amount to charity in their will after they have looked after their family and friends’.

We believe that by adopting this ‘family first, charity second’ approach, and making it relevant for ordinary people and then helping them understand what to do, we can make some big steps in helping people to change their attitudes.

By working together we can change the shape of charity giving forever.

Our Charitable Partners

So far we have made connections with over fifteen of New Zealand’s biggest charities and we will be announcing more charitable partners over the coming weeks.
